A major Japanese global bank is seeking a Senior Project Manager at the Director level to lead large-scale, enterprise-wide strategic initiatives across the organization.

This leadership role is responsible for driving complex transformation programs, operational initiatives, and strategic projects that support business growth, regulatory alignment, and operational excellence. The Senior Project Manager will work closely with executive leadership, business stakeholders, technology organizations, and operational teams to ensure successful delivery of critical enterprise initiatives within a highly regulated global banking environment.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive project leadership experience, strong banking domain expertise, and the ability to manage large cross-functional programs while driving measurable business outcomes.


Key Responsibilities:

Enterprise Project Leadership

  • Lead and manage multiple large-scale, enterprise-wide projects and strategic initiatives from initiation through implementation and delivery
  • Drive execution of complex transformation programs supporting business objectives, operational efficiency, and organizational priorities
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with enterprise governance standards

Program Planning & Governance

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans including:
    • Scope management
    • Timeline and milestone planning
    • Budget oversight
    • Resource allocation
    • Risk and issue management strategies
  • Establish governance structures, reporting frameworks, and escalation protocols to support delivery execution
  • Monitor program performance and proactively manage risks, dependencies, and operational challenges

Executive & Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with senior executives and business leaders to define project objectives, KPIs, success criteria, and strategic priorities
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams across:
    • Technology
    • Operations
    • Business units
    • Compliance
    • Enterprise support organizations
  • Facilitate effective communication and alignment among stakeholders at all organizational levels
  • Deliver executive-level presentations, dashboards, and status reporting to senior leadership and governance forums

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to project delivery methodologies, governance processes, and operational execution
  • Promote best practices across project management disciplines and enterprise delivery frameworks
  • Support strategic modernization and operational transformation initiatives within the banking organization

Leadership & Team Development

  • Mentor and guide junior project managers and delivery professionals
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, operational discipline, and execution excellence
  • Influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders within highly matrixed organizational environments

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of project management experience within financial services or banking environments
  • Proven track record successfully delivering large-scale, enterprise-wide strategic initiatives
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Banking operations
    • Financial systems
    • Regulatory requirements
    • Enterprise governance frameworks
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management credential highly preferred
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to influence and drive results within complex matrix organizations
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Experience with:
    • Agile methodologies
    • Waterfall delivery frameworks
    • Hybrid project management approaches

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading enterprise transformation, operational modernization, or regulatory remediation initiatives
  • Familiarity with global banking operations and cross-border organizational structures
  • Experience supporting executive governance, PMO functions, and enterprise delivery offices
  • Strong understanding of operational risk management and regulatory compliance within banking environments
  • Experience managing geographically distributed and cross-functional delivery teams
