A US credit union is seeking a VP Financial and Strategic Risk Management to join their team.

Location: Hybrid – Queens, NY

Position Overview

The VP Financial and Strategic Risk Management will be responsible for overseeing and managing the credit union’s financial and strategic risk framework. This role requires a strategic thinker with deep expertise in risk management, financial analysis, and regulatory compliance within the financial services industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive financial and strategic risk management frameworks
  • Identify, assess, and monitor financial risks including credit risk, market risk, liquidity risk, and operational risk
  • Provide strategic guidance to senior leadership on risk exposure and mitigation strategies
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and industry best practices
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and stress testing scenarios
  • Prepare detailed risk reports and presentations for executive leadership and the Board of Directors
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders across departments to embed risk awareness throughout the organization
  • Monitor emerging risks and industry trends that may impact the credit union
  • Lead and mentor risk management team members
  • Develop and maintain risk policies, procedures, and controls

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree or professional certification (FRM, CFA, CPA) preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in financial risk management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of banking regulations and compliance requirements
  • Proven experience with risk modeling, stress testing, and scenario analysis
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with ability to convey complex risk concepts to diverse audiences
  • Experience working with senior executives and board members
  • Proficiency in risk management software and financial analysis tools
  • Credit union or financial institution experience strongly preferred

Compensation: $200,000 – $225,000
