A US credit union is seeking a VP Financial and Strategic Risk Management to join their team.
Location: Hybrid – Queens, NY
Position Overview
The VP Financial and Strategic Risk Management will be responsible for overseeing and managing the credit union’s financial and strategic risk framework. This role requires a strategic thinker with deep expertise in risk management, financial analysis, and regulatory compliance within the financial services industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive financial and strategic risk management frameworks
- Identify, assess, and monitor financial risks including credit risk, market risk, liquidity risk, and operational risk
- Provide strategic guidance to senior leadership on risk exposure and mitigation strategies
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and industry best practices
- Conduct regular risk assessments and stress testing scenarios
- Prepare detailed risk reports and presentations for executive leadership and the Board of Directors
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across departments to embed risk awareness throughout the organization
- Monitor emerging risks and industry trends that may impact the credit union
- Lead and mentor risk management team members
- Develop and maintain risk policies, procedures, and controls
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree or professional certification (FRM, CFA, CPA) preferred
- Minimum 10 years of experience in financial risk management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Strong knowledge of banking regulations and compliance requirements
- Proven experience with risk modeling, stress testing, and scenario analysis
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills with ability to convey complex risk concepts to diverse audiences
- Experience working with senior executives and board members
- Proficiency in risk management software and financial analysis tools
- Credit union or financial institution experience strongly preferred
Compensation: $200,000 – $225,000
