A US bank is seeking a Director, Product Engineering to lead and drive innovation across its digital product portfolio.

Location: Austin, TX

Position Overview:

The Director, Product Engineering will be responsible for overseeing the engineering teams that build and maintain digital banking products and services. This role requires a strategic leader who can balance technical excellence with business objectives while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor engineering teams in the design, development, and deployment of digital banking products
  • Partner with Product Management, Design, and other stakeholders to define technical strategy and roadmap
  • Drive architectural decisions and ensure scalability, security, and performance of all systems
  • Establish and maintain engineering best practices, standards, and processes
  • Manage resource allocation and capacity planning across multiple product teams
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and accountability
  • Oversee the adoption of modern development practices including CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal security standards
  • Drive innovation through evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies
  • Build and maintain relationships with third-party vendors and technology partners

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5 years in leadership roles
  • Proven track record of delivering complex, enterprise-scale digital products
  • Deep understanding of modern software development methodologies and practices
  • Experience with cloud platforms, microservices architecture, and API-driven development
  • Strong knowledge of security best practices and regulatory compliance in financial services
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and scale high-performing engineering teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience in banking or financial services industry
  • Knowledge of mobile application development for iOS and Android platforms
  • Familiarity with data analytics and machine learning applications
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies at scale
