A credit union serving US military families is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to provide senior technical leadership and hands-on systems engineering expertise in support of its Financial Group portfolio. This role is critical in driving core banking optimization, system enhancement, and digital transformation initiatives, ensuring secure, scalable, and compliant technology solutions that support investment services and member-focused financial capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end solution architecture and systems engineering from discovery through operational support
- Translate business, regulatory, and operational requirements into target-state architectures and technical roadmaps
- Design, implement, and maintain complex systems across cloud infrastructure, core platforms, and third-party technologies
- Define and implement scalable integration patterns, APIs, and system interoperability frameworks
- Provide technical leadership across design, development, testing, release, and operational readiness
- Establish and enforce engineering standards related to security, scalability, data governance, and resilience
- Drive compliance with regulatory requirements including audit readiness, data retention, and governance standards
- Conduct root cause analysis for complex system issues and implement solutions
- Identify gaps in processes, tooling, and documentation to improve operational efficiency
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver technology solutions aligned with business objectives
Required Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in systems engineering, solution architecture, or related technical leadership roles
- Proven ability to design and implement complex, enterprise-scale systems in financial services environments
- Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, APIs, integration patterns, and distributed systems
- Experience translating business and regulatory requirements into technical solutions
- Deep knowledge of security, compliance, and governance standards
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders
- Experience supporting digital transformation and core banking optimization initiatives
- Fluency in English required
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with digital investing, wealth management, or financial services platforms
- Knowledge of customer relationship management (CRM), compliance, and lead management systems
- Familiarity with modern data platforms and analytics solutions
- Experience with third-party vendor integrations and ecosystem platforms
