A US regional bank is seeking a Senior Director of Core Banking (CoE) to lead the strategic success of its Core Banking Platforms. This role is critical in driving adoption, optimizing platform value, and aligning core banking capabilities with enterprise strategy. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise, strategic vision, and leadership to guide investments, simplify the platform ecosystem, and ensure scalable, secure, and resilient banking operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy & Platform Leadership
- Lead prioritization of investments across core banking platforms aligned with enterprise strategy
- Act as the organization’s Core Banking champion, promoting adoption and alignment across business units
- Define and maintain a strategic capability roadmap for core banking platforms (e.g., Fiserv, Thought Machine Vault, TSYS, FIS Trust)
- Drive platform modernization and simplification to enhance scalability and service reusability
Architecture & Capability Alignment
- Ensure alignment between business needs, product strategy, and technology platform delivery
- Define appropriate business and technology architecture for core banking platforms
- Act as a strategic advisor to business units on current and future platform capabilities
Performance & Value Realization
- Establish and track ROI and IRR metrics for core banking investments
- Monitor platform performance and evaluate current and future capabilities
- Communicate success metrics and value realization to executive leadership
Governance & Risk Management
- Partner with Information Security to ensure platform security best practices
- Own operational risk and resilience across all core banking platforms
- Ensure business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities are in place and effective
- Maintain close engagement with the CoE Working Group and executive stakeholders
Leadership & Team Development
- Build and lead high-performing teams supporting core banking platforms
- Foster collaboration across product, project, and technology teams
- Drive a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
Required Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in core banking platforms and financial services technology
- Proven leadership in enterprise platform strategy, architecture, and delivery
- Strong understanding of core banking systems (e.g., Fiserv, FIS, TSYS, Thought Machine, or similar)
- Experience driving large-scale platform transformation and modernization initiatives
- Strong financial acumen with experience measuring ROI/IRR for technology investments
- Deep understanding of risk management, security, and regulatory requirements
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including executive engagement
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving capabilities
Preferred Skills:
- Experience leading a Center of Excellence (CoE) or similar governance function
- Familiarity with cloud-native banking platforms and modern architecture patterns
- Experience with API-driven ecosystems and platform integration strategies
- Strong background in enterprise architecture and capability modeling
- Experience supporting long-term digital transformation initiatives
- Ability to balance strategic leadership with execution and operational oversight
