A major Japanese global bank is seeking a Senior Project Manager at the Director level to oversee and manage large-scale technology programs and portfolios across the organization. This role is critical in driving end-to-end delivery of complex initiatives, ensuring alignment with global business strategy, regulatory requirements, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will collaborate across regions, including close coordination with Tokyo Head Office, to deliver impactful, enterprise-wide technology solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Delivery
- Lead large-scale, complex technology programs from initiation through delivery and closure
- Define program scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, and success criteria
- Develop and manage detailed project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource models
- Ensure delivery aligns with business strategy, regulatory standards, and operational goals
Stakeholder Management & Global Coordination
- Build strong partnerships with business stakeholders and senior leadership across regions
- Facilitate communication and decision-making among stakeholders, including executive leadership
- Coordinate closely with Tokyo Head Office and regional teams to ensure global alignment
- Influence stakeholders to align on scope, timelines, and target outcomes
Risk, Governance & Performance Management
- Identify, assess, and manage risks, issues, dependencies, and change requests
- Monitor program health through KPIs, dashboards, and reporting
- Ensure adherence to governance frameworks, project standards, and regulatory requirements
- Drive transparency and accountability across all workstreams
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Execution
- Coordinate across multiple workstreams, vendors, and internal teams for integrated delivery
- Support change management initiatives and drive user adoption
- Lead impact assessments and continuous improvement efforts
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
- 10+ years of experience in project or program management, preferably within financial services or technology
- Proven track record delivering large-scale, enterprise technology programs
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), Agile, and Waterfall methodologies
- Experience working in global, matrixed organizations with cross-regional coordination
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
- Fluency in both English and Japanese required
Preferred Skills:
- PMP, PgMP, or equivalent certification
- Experience working with global banking or financial services institutions
- Proficiency with project management tools such as MS Project, Jira, Confluence, or similar
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive clarity in complex environments
- Experience supporting enterprise transformation and modernization initiatives
