A large Northeast regional bank is seeking a Strategy Director / Senior Director, Innovation & Partnerships to play a critical enterprise-level role in shaping the future of Treasury and Wholesale Payments. This strategic leadership position will drive innovation, partnership development, product-led growth, and market expansion initiatives while influencing where the business competes and how it differentiates in an evolving payments landscape.
The role sits at the intersection of strategy, innovation, partnerships, and commercial execution, partnering closely with leaders across Treasury, Commercial Banking, Consumer Banking, Capital Markets, Product, and Technology organizations. The ideal candidate will bring strong commercial acumen, strategic thinking, and the ability to transform complex market analysis into actionable growth initiatives and executive decision-making support.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy, Market Insight & Growth
- Lead market analysis, peer benchmarking, and competitive intelligence efforts across Treasury and Wholesale Payments ecosystems
- Develop objective, data-driven insights regarding industry trends, competitive gaps, market dynamics, and growth opportunities
- Deliver strategic recommendations and executive insights to support high-impact business decisions
- Define and evaluate strategic growth opportunities including partnerships, embedded banking capabilities, new business models, and investment initiatives
- Develop business cases tied to revenue growth, deposit acquisition, fee income expansion, client impact, and long-term strategic value
- Support diligence, prioritization, and strategic investment evaluation activities
Innovation, Partnerships & Execution
- Identify, structure, negotiate, and support execution of strategic partnerships and innovation initiatives
- Accelerate product and platform growth through fintech partnerships, ecosystem expansion, and emerging payment capabilities
- Coordinate cross-functional execution across Business Banking, Commercial Banking, Consumer Banking, Treasury, and Capital Markets organizations
- Serve as a strategic connector across Product, Technology, Marketing, Sales, Operations, and business teams to move initiatives from concept through execution
Product & Commercial Leadership
- Act as a strategic advisor to Product Management organizations shaping Treasury and Payments product vision and roadmap priorities
- Support investment decisions and commercialization strategies tied to Treasury Management and Wholesale Payments capabilities
- Help articulate customer value propositions, profitability opportunities, deposit growth potential, and fee income optimization strategies
- Apply a customer-centric perspective to ensure innovations align with enterprise scalability and client needs
Executive Communication & Governance
- Develop executive presentations, board materials, and strategic communications supporting enterprise decision-making
- Define and track strategic success metrics, KPIs, and value realization outcomes
- Influence executive leadership and governance forums through concise, structured analysis and recommendations
- Support enterprise governance and alignment activities tied to strategic execution and transformation initiatives
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Strategy, or related field
- Extensive experience in strategy, innovation, partnerships, consulting, payments, treasury management, or financial services leadership roles
- Strong understanding of Treasury Management, Wholesale Payments, Commercial Banking, and financial services ecosystems
- Experience conducting market analysis, competitive intelligence, and strategic business planning
- Proven ability to develop business cases tied to revenue growth, deposits, fee income, and strategic investment priorities
- Experience supporting enterprise innovation, partnerships, or product-led growth initiatives
- Strong executive communication and storytelling capabilities
- Ability to influence senior leadership and drive alignment across complex matrixed organizations
- Strong commercial acumen, analytical thinking, and strategic problem-solving capabilities
- Experience collaborating across Product, Technology, Sales, Marketing, and Operations teams
Preferred Skills:
- Experience within Treasury Services, Payments, Embedded Banking, or Commercial Banking innovation initiatives
- Familiarity with fintech partnerships, payment ecosystems, and emerging banking technologies
- Experience supporting enterprise growth strategy and transformation initiatives
- Strong understanding of customer experience, product commercialization, and P&L management
- Experience preparing executive presentations and board-level strategic materials
- MBA or advanced degree preferred
