A large Midwest regional bank is seeking a highly experienced Managing Director – International Banking to lead and expand its global banking capabilities. This executive leadership role will drive the strategic growth of the international banking division while overseeing cross-border banking services, trade finance operations, foreign exchange solutions, and global client relationships.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive international banking expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven track record of growing international financial services operations within a regulated banking environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic direction, growth, and execution of the bank’s international banking initiatives.
  • Manage and expand relationships with multinational corporations, foreign financial institutions, and global banking partners.
  • Oversee international banking operations including trade finance, foreign exchange, correspondent banking, and cross-border lending services.
  • Direct trade finance activities such as letters of credit, documentary collections, and trade guarantees.
  • Manage treasury and foreign exchange solutions to support international client needs.
  • Develop and maintain strategic correspondent banking relationships globally.
  • Ensure compliance with international banking regulations including BSA/AML, OFAC, KYC, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing international banking team focused on client service and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate across business units to identify cross-selling opportunities and deliver integrated banking solutions.
  • Monitor market trends, regulatory developments, and competitive dynamics to identify business growth opportunities.
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, client meetings, and regulatory engagements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, International Business, or a related discipline; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in international banking or global financial services leadership roles.
  • Proven success managing and growing international banking operations and client portfolios.
  • Deep expertise in trade finance, foreign exchange, treasury management, and cross-border payment systems.
  • Strong understanding of international banking regulations and compliance frameworks including BSA/AML, OFAC, and KYC.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams, driving performance, and executing strategic initiatives.
  • Excellent business development and relationship management capabilities.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and executive decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively within a fully remote work environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Certified Trade Finance Professional (CTFP) or similar industry certification.
  • Experience supporting international expansion initiatives and emerging markets.
  • Multilingual communication capabilities.
  • Established network of international banking and correspondent banking relationships.
  • Experience leading enterprise-level international banking transformation initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of global treasury operations and international risk management practices.
