A US bank is seeking a Director of Application Development to join its Global Payments Trade AMP team. This role is critical in leading the development and delivery of core banking solutions, driving innovation across the technology stack, and ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performing applications. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and experience operating in complex, regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and delivery of core banking solutions leveraging both vendor and in-house capabilities
- Oversee multiple application development teams and PODs, ensuring alignment with business goals and delivery timelines
- Drive architecture, design, and implementation of scalable, high-quality software solutions across the full technology stack
- Collaborate with product management, UX/UI, QA, and other stakeholders to define and execute product roadmaps
- Establish and enforce best practices in software development, including coding standards, CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and automated testing
- Mentor and develop engineering managers and senior developers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement
- Manage resource allocation, budgeting, and prioritization across multiple concurrent programs
- Ensure applications meet security, performance, and compliance requirements
- Promote adoption of modern engineering practices, including AI-driven development, testing, and operations
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 15+ years of software development experience, including 5+ years in leadership roles managing multiple teams or PODs
- Proven track record delivering large-scale, complex software programs
- Experience in financial services, healthcare, or other regulated industries
- Strong experience working in matrixed organizations with distributed teams
- Hands-on expertise in full-stack development using modern technologies
- Strong understanding of software architecture, engineering best practices, and delivery frameworks
Preferred Skills:
- Certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure DevOps Engineer)
- Experience leading global payments or trade finance technology initiatives
- Familiarity with AI-first development approaches and automation frameworks
- Expertise in DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native architectures
- Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities for high-performing engineering teams
- Experience supporting large-scale digital transformation and modernization programs
