A US bank is seeking a Director-level Architecture Lead to drive enterprise architecture for its Compliance Engineering organization. This role is critical in designing and delivering high-performance, resilient, and compliant technology solutions across payments and financial crime domains. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in payment rails (SWIFT, ACH, RTP) and financial crime frameworks, leading architecture strategy while ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and enterprise standards.


Key Responsibilities:

Architecture Leadership

  • Define end-to-end target and transitional architectures across payments and compliance platforms
  • Integrate payment rails including SWIFT, ACH, RTP, and related systems
  • Establish reference architectures, design patterns, and governance guardrails
  • Lead architecture reviews, threat modeling, and resiliency assessments (RTO/RPO)
  • Ensure adherence to enterprise architecture standards, security policies, and regulatory requirements

Design, Documentation & Communication

  • Develop high-quality architecture designs, diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Create sequence diagrams, data flow models, and system architecture artifacts
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear insights for business, compliance, and regulatory stakeholders
  • Engage deeply with engineering, data, and SRE teams on architecture decisions
  • Convert regulatory requirements (AML/KYC, transaction monitoring, data retention) into actionable technical solutions

Payments & Financial Crime Expertise

  • Architect solutions supporting transaction monitoring, surveillance, and compliance systems
  • Partner with Financial Crime teams to design detection, investigation, and reporting capabilities
  • Align technology solutions with financial crime typologies and risk indicators
  • Ensure platforms meet standards for security, privacy, auditability, and regulatory compliance

Data Architecture & Quality

  • Define critical data elements (CDEs), data models, lineage, and mapping strategies
  • Establish data quality rules and governance across payments and compliance domains
  • Drive metadata management and master/reference data strategies
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams on scalable pipelines, streaming, and analytics platforms
  • Ensure robust data controls across ingestion, processing, storage, and consumption layers

Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in enterprise or solution architecture within financial services
  • Deep expertise in payment systems (SWIFT, ACH, RTP) and financial crime domains (AML, market abuse, KYC)
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, risk management, and security frameworks
  • Proven ability to design scalable, resilient, and high-performance enterprise systems
  • Experience leading architecture governance, reviews, and technical strategy
  • Strong communication skills with ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Expertise in data architecture, data governance, and quality management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in compliance engineering or financial crime technology platforms
  • Familiarity with modern architecture patterns, cloud platforms, and distributed systems
  • Experience with streaming data, real-time analytics, and event-driven architectures
  • Knowledge of regulatory reporting and audit frameworks
  • Experience leading large-scale enterprise transformation initiatives
  • Ability to balance strategic architecture vision with hands-on execution
