A US credit union is seeking a Director, Core Operations and Applications.
Location: Medford, NY
The Director, Core Operations and Applications will oversee the strategic direction, implementation, and ongoing management of the credit union’s core banking systems and operational applications. This role is responsible for ensuring system reliability, optimizing performance, and aligning technology solutions with business objectives to support member service excellence and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, implementation, and maintenance of the core banking platform and related operational applications
- Develop and execute strategic technology roadmaps that align with organizational goals and member needs
- Manage vendor relationships, contract negotiations, and service level agreements for core systems and applications
- Oversee system upgrades, patches, and enhancements while minimizing operational disruption
- Ensure data integrity, system security, and regulatory compliance across all core operations platforms
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including IT, Operations, Compliance, and Member Services to identify and implement process improvements
- Lead and mentor a team of technical professionals responsible for system administration and support
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators to measure system performance and operational effectiveness
- Manage project portfolios related to core system enhancements and new application implementations
- Provide technical leadership during incident response and disaster recovery scenarios
- Prepare and present reports to senior leadership on system performance, project status, and strategic initiatives
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in core banking systems management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Extensive knowledge of core banking platforms and operational applications used in financial services
- Strong understanding of banking operations, regulatory requirements, and compliance standards
- Proven track record of successful large-scale system implementations and upgrades
- Excellent project management skills with experience managing multiple concurrent initiatives
- Strong vendor management and contract negotiation experience
- Exceptional leadership and team development capabilities
- Outstanding communication skills with ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with change management and process improvement methodologies
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and data protection best practices
