Senior Items Processing Specialist – Banking

A US bank is seeking a Senior Items Processing Specialist for its Banking operations.

Location: Hauppauge, NY

Position Overview:

This role is responsible for performing complex items processing functions within the banking operations department, ensuring accurate and timely processing of banking transactions while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Process high volume and complex banking items including checks, deposits, and other negotiable instruments
• Review and verify transaction accuracy and authenticity
• Identify and resolve discrepancies, exceptions, and unusual items
• Ensure compliance with federal and state banking regulations, including Check 21, Reg CC, and UCC guidelines
• Perform quality control reviews on processed items
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior items processing staff
• Maintain detailed records and documentation of processed transactions
• Collaborate with branch personnel and other departments to resolve processing issues
• Meet established productivity and accuracy standards
• Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives
• Stay current on banking regulations and industry best practices

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in banking items processing or related operations role
• Strong knowledge of banking regulations and compliance requirements
• Proficiency with items processing systems and banking software
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
• Experience with automated items processing equipment
• Previous experience in a supervisory or mentoring capacity
• Knowledge of fraud detection techniques

Compensation: $55,000 – $60,000
