A large Midwest regional bank is seeking a Sr. Principal Enterprise Solution Architect to lead enterprise architecture strategy and drive the design of scalable, secure, and business-aligned technology solutions across the organization.
This senior leadership role is responsible for defining target-state architectures, guiding enterprise modernization initiatives, and ensuring alignment between strategic business objectives and technology investments. The Sr. Principal Enterprise Solution Architect will collaborate closely with executive leadership, business stakeholders, engineering teams, infrastructure organizations, and security partners to deliver enterprise-grade architectures that support innovation, operational resilience, and long-term scalability.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in enterprise architecture, cloud-native technologies, distributed systems, and enterprise governance within complex and highly regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Architecture Leadership
- Lead the design and implementation of enterprise-level solution architectures aligned with organizational strategy and business objectives
- Define target-state architectures, enterprise technology roadmaps, and modernization strategies across business and technology domains
- Provide technical leadership and strategic guidance across enterprise initiatives and transformation programs
Architecture Standards & Governance
- Define, maintain, and evolve architecture standards, principles, patterns, and best practices across the organization
- Drive enterprise architectural governance and ensure compliance with enterprise architecture frameworks and operational standards
- Lead architecture review boards and provide oversight for major technology investments and strategic initiatives
- Ensure alignment with enterprise security, compliance, resiliency, and governance requirements
Technology Strategy & Innovation
- Evaluate emerging technologies and assess their business value, scalability, and organizational impact
- Drive modernization initiatives involving:
- Cloud-native architectures
- Microservices
- API-first design
- Distributed systems
- Enterprise integrations
- Partner with engineering and infrastructure teams to support scalable and resilient technology platforms
Stakeholder Collaboration & Solution Design
- Collaborate with business leaders, IT leadership, product teams, and technical stakeholders to translate business requirements into enterprise-scale technical solutions
- Partner with:
- Security teams
- Infrastructure organizations
- Application development teams
- Data and operations groups to ensure integrated and cohesive enterprise solutions
- Facilitate strategic discussions and architecture alignment across matrixed enterprise organizations
Documentation & Technical Leadership
- Create and maintain comprehensive architecture documentation and enterprise artifacts including:
- Reference architectures
- Solution designs
- Integration patterns
- Technical standards
- Governance documentation
- Mentor and develop junior architects, engineers, and technical staff
- Promote architecture excellence, operational discipline, and innovation across enterprise technology teams
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in:
- Enterprise Architecture
- Solution Architecture
- Technical leadership roles
- Deep expertise in enterprise architecture frameworks such as:
- TOGAF
- Zachman
- Similar enterprise frameworks
- Strong knowledge of:
- AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
- Cloud-native architectures
- Distributed systems
- Enterprise integrations
- Experience with:
- Microservices architectures
- API design and management
- Enterprise application modernization
- Proven track record leading large-scale, complex technology transformation initiatives
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and executive presentation skills
- Strong understanding of software development methodologies and enterprise delivery practices
- Financial services or highly regulated industry experience preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field
- Enterprise architecture certifications such as:
- TOGAF
- AWS/Azure/GCP Architect certifications
- Similar enterprise technology credentials
- Experience with:
- Modern data architectures
- Analytics platforms
- Enterprise data governance
- Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation
- Experience supporting enterprise modernization and digital transformation initiatives within banking or financial services environments
